Long Distance
©2003 Elizabeth L. Clark
The sound of a car coming up the drive. She rushes to the door, flinging it
open. She looks into eyes before only seen in a photograph. Lips smile, hands
touch and arms pull each other close.
When lips meet, time stops. Around them is a shimmering bubble of long denied
love and passion. The universe could end and they would not notice. All they
could feel was the touch of a long distance love finally brought close.
Neither knew how they got inside or how they ended up side by side on the soft
bed. Lost, lost in every word, every touch they knew nothing but the moment.
All the words typed between them, all the lonely nights exploded in a rush of
love and need. Two women, drawn by destiny clung together, whispering of love
and desire.
The miles that had separated them were gone now and they were one. Never more
would arms ache from lack of a warm body to hold, never again would hearts weep
from the emptiness... never again would they hunger for the sound of a voice
over the phone.
Two lives once apart, weeping for the other part of their souls were together
for all time. Only tears of joy would fall from their eyes now... the distance
has been bridged... the long wait over.
