The sickbay of the USS Dauntless A was greatly changed from the much smaller facility available on the original ship. The design was the brainchild of CMO Nicholas Haas who realized that the larger ship would have more families aboard among the crew and be sent on much longer exploratory missions. It would thus require more specialized facilities. The design reflects not only great care toward the patients, but also great care towards the staff with the inclusion of a lounge and conference room. Bioscanners are now routed to each bed in the facility to negate the need to move patients who are critical. Also added were pediactric and obstetrics/gynecology specific care centers; recovery, isolation and psychiatric detention wards for patients whose stays would be extended for treatment or observation. The new design also features dual surgical theaters to accomodate serious casualties during combat situations.

The new design kept some of the concepts of the old in that there are three seperate generation systems for Emergency Medical Holograms. One hologram is equipped with a mobile emitter to allow it to leave sickbay as necessary.

In addition to the main sickbay facility, there are standard facilities on  deck 32 (Marine Decks) and deck .20.
